Adega Viúva Gomes
Pirata Da Viuva Castelao '20
Adega Viúva Gomes established in 1808 is located in Almoçageme, Colares. The region is defined by dunes and sandy soils sited on the coastline of Sintra, from Cabo da Roca until Magoito with the Altantic Ocean running alongside. Colares’ connection to wine goes back the Roman Empire, with King D. Afonso III in 1230, as landlord, demanded the plantation of vines. Colares vines unlike most of Europe survived the blight of Phylloxera, a tiny insect imported from the US in the 19th century, due to their deep roots (some extending 8 metres out of the reach of critters). This cuvee is single local varietal Castelão grown on clay limestone, aged 10 months in old chestnut and mahogany barrels.
