Chiara Condello
Predappio Tre Vigne '21
Chiara continues a long family legacy of winemaking in Predappio, a small town in southern Emilia Romagna. Her parents still produce wine under the labell Condé, but Chiara is taking her own path in terms of winemaking intent and method. Chiara tends 5ha of her own vineyards planted with Sangiovese, a variety that has a long history in Emilia Romagna (albeit overshadowed by its huge success in nearby Tuscany). Many experts believe the variety originated there, and Chiara demonstrates its suitability to the calcareous spungone soils (soils made up of seashells in calcerous cement) that line the Apennines. Since the start, she farms organically and favours manual work where possible. Inspired by the late Tuscan legend Giulio Gambelli, Chiara's uses open-top fermenters with extended whole cluster maceration for 30 days and ageing in large neutral vessels like Slavonian oak barrels and stainless steel. The results translate to beautifully aromatic, complex and layered wines.
