Pur Granit Cornas

This organic Northern Rhône Syrah from granite soils is among the region’s most expressive. The Lionnet family has farmed Cornas since 1575, but 2016 marked the first vintage under Ludovic Izerable and Corinne Lionnet. Thierry Allemand calls it “very good work”—the 2016 vintage is arguably the best in two decades. Pur Granit comes from steep, terraced parcels, fermented with whole clusters and aged in old barrels. Expect blackberry, iron and violet with mineral lift and savoury depth. No fining, no new oak, just purity and tension. Serve with venison, black lentils or roast celeriac.
