Red, Rall

This boutique Swartland blend from granite and schist soils shows why Donovan Rall is one of South Africa’s most exciting producers. After training at Stellenbosch and working with Eben Sadie, he launched his own label in 2007 with a focus on site transparency and minimal intervention. The 2022 is 70% Syrah from Roundstone and Papkuilfontein, blended with Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault. Expect black cherry, tapenade and wild herbs, with crushed rock grip and savoury depth. The structure is firm but fluid. Serve with slow-cooked lamb, aubergine or mushroom stew.
